Priya Saroj: Youngest Parliamentarian, Lawyer, and Rising Political Leader
Priya Saroj (born November 23, 1998) is an Indian politician and lawyer, currently serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Machhlishahr Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Representing the Samajwadi Party (SP), she became one of the youngest candidates to be elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2024 General Elections. She is also the daughter of senior SP leader and three-time MP Tufani Saroj, who is presently an MLA in Uttar Pradesh.
In addition to her political journey, Priya made headlines when she got engaged to Indian cricketer Rinku Singh on June 8, 2025.
Early Life and Education
Born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Priya Saroj completed her schooling at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in New Delhi. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Delhi University and later pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Amity University, Noida.
Political Career
Priya entered mainstream politics through the Samajwadi Party, gaining popularity through active involvement in grassroots campaigns. She won the Machhlishahr parliamentary seat in the 2024 Indian General Elections, defeating B.P. Saroj by a margin of 35,850 votes. Her victory marked a generational shift in politics, as she emerged as one of the youngest voices in Indian Parliament.

On June 8, 2025, Priya Saroj got engaged to Indian cricketer Rinku Singh in a private ceremony held at Hotel Centrum in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The engagement was a grand yet intimate event attended by several high-profile personalities, including:

According to Pandit Umesh Trivedi, who performed the rituals, the ceremony included traditional customs like Bariksha and Godh Bharai before the official ring exchange. A viral video from the event showed an emotional Priya during the ring ceremony and a candid moment of the couple dancing to the popular Bollywood song “Gallan Goodiyan.”
Among them there was Congress leader and BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla who told PTI, “May both of them enjoy a beautiful life, this is a wonderful match. Each excels in their own field, and together, they will make a strong and successful pair.”
Prior to the event, the couple visited Chaudhera Wali Vichitra Devi Temple in Bulandshahr to seek blessings. The wedding is reportedly scheduled for November 2025.
How Did Priya Saroj and Rinku Singh Meet?
The love story between the politician and the cricketer began through mutual connections. According to Tufani Saroj, Priya’s father, the two were introduced by a family friend who is also a cricketer. Their relationship blossomed over time, and with the blessings of both families, they decided to take the next step.
“We are happy and proud. They’ve known each other for some time, and now it’s time to celebrate,” Tufani Saroj shared with ANI.
In fact, Rinku and Priya met through a mutual connection. It was her friend’s father, who introduced them. Talking about it, Tufani had revealed that Priya was introduced to Rinku through a mutual friend, whose father is also a cricketer.
“Rinku and Priya have known each other for more than a year now. They both liked each other but needed their families’ consent for the relationship. Both families have agreed to this marriage,” he said.
Rinku, 27, has played 2 ODIs and 33 T20Is for India in last couple of years and is an important member of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. The 26-year-old Priya is a first time MP from Jaunpur’s Machhlishahr constituency.
“Rinku and Priya have known each other for some time. They met through Priya’s friend’s father, who is a cricketer himself. With the blessings of both families, they decided to get married,” the would-be bride’s father said.
