Why Axar Patel missing out Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2025 clash against MI

Axar Patel & Story

Delhi Capitals vice-captain Faf du Plessis is leading the side in their Indian Premier League (IPL) do-or-die match against Mumbai Indians, which is taking place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The South African star revealed that regular captain Axar Patel is down with the flu for the past two days.

The ongoing clash between DC and MI is crucial for both teams to seal their berth for the playoffs of the crucial cash-rich league. MI are currently fourth in the points table, and DC are fifth.

“Its unfortunate for Axar Patel, really sick in the last two days, down with flu, so we wish Axar Patel all the best. He’s been excellent for us this season, and we will surely miss him today. What an opportunity! If you ask any team, the last game of the season, you have a chance to get to the top four, you will smile and you will grab that opportunity with both hands.

Playing a good team today, we are ready for it. We have not been at our best in the last 5 or 6 games. Everyday there is a new opportunity, Looks a bit different to a normal Wankhede wicket, a bit dry one, so we are sticking with the tone of the campaign and chasing. Axar Patel is not there, Axar is like two players – fantastic spinner and a great batter, so it’s difficult to replace that. We don’t have a like-for-like. We’ll see how it goes” said Faf du Plessis during toss.

Axar Patel & DC vs MI head-to-head

Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians played 36 matches against each other, where DC managed to win 16 matches and MI won 20. This means the Hardik Pandya-led side has the upper hand against DC. Both Delhi and Mumbai are coming after losing the last match, and now one team would like to go to the playoffs by winning.

IPL 2025 Points Table

The wait is now over as the IPL 2025 season is back with a bang. Ten teams will once again cross arms with each other for the wanted title. Like all leagues and tournaments, the IPL points table plays a significant role. Teams get two points for each win, and in the event of a tied match, each team receives one point.
The top four teams on the points table advance to the playoffs. The teams ranked first and second compete in Qualifier-1, with the winner securing a spot in the final. The loser of Qualifier-1 then plays in Qualifier-2. Simultaneously, the teams ranked third and fourth participate in the Eliminator; the losing team is eliminated, and the winner proceeds to Qualifier-2. The winner of Qualifier-2 then becomes the second finalist, setting the stage for the final match.
